The Type 003 is the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier to be build in China to equip the People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN). With a full displacement of 85,000 tons (or up to 100,000-ton) the ship will carry an air wing of more than 80 aircraft including the newest Chinese version of the Sukhoi Su-33 Sea Flanker, called the J-15T, and helicopters. The J-21 stealth fighter may also be embarked upon the new aircraft carrier. The lead ship is expected to be commissioned by 2023-2024. The construction could have started at Shangai Jiangnan Shipyard in January 2018 and in November 2018 the ship was already under construction.
